Scared to work out in the gym? Read this first.

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Just started going to the gym? Found out that you are avoiding going at certain times, or avoided it altogether?

Don’t worry you are not alone.

The gym can be an intimidating place especially when you are new and don’t understand what to do or how to act.

Almost everyone has experienced this in their fitness journey, yes even that bodybuilder in the corner lifting hundreds of kilos. One thing to remember is that everyone started somewhere, everyone stepped into that gym for the first time, and everyone is on their own journey.

The majority of people in the gym are willing to help you learn and aren’t judging you for what you are doing, they might even be feeling nervous themselves.

How can we stop gym intimidation?

As someone new, it is a great idea to go in with a plan, know what exercises to do, and how

to do them safely so you feel confident in what you are doing.

If you need help finding what exercises, try to talk to a personal trainer.

A great way to make everyone more comfortable is by starting a conversation.

You’ll find most people are willing to talk and share stories about their gym experience. Try asking if someone recommends an exercise for a particular body part, or how often someone is training a week, or even just say hi. This makes everyone relax and feel comfortable and you also might make a friend or two along the way.
