NAD+ for Longevity: Worth It or Overhyped?


NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) has been getting a lot of attention in the longevity space, with claims that it can boost energy, support cellular repair, and slow aging. While I personally love NAD supplements, it’s important to look at the bigger picture before diving headfirst into daily IV drips or expensive supplement protocols.


What Is NAD+ and Why Does It Matter?


NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every cell of your body, playing a crucial role in:

• Energy production (helping convert food into ATP)

• DNA repair and cellular regeneration

• Mitochondrial function (your cells’ energy powerhouses)

• Sirtuin activation, which is linked to anti-aging and longevity


As we age, NAD+ levels naturally decline, which has been associated with increased fatigue, cognitive decline, and slower recovery. This is why boosting NAD+ is seen as a potential way to slow down aging and improve overall health.


The Problem With Daily NAD+ IV Drips


While NAD+ IV infusions are trendy, there’s limited research to justify doing them every single day. Some issues include:

1. Vein Damage & Inflammation

• NAD+ IVs can be harsh on veins, especially if done frequently. Many people experience pain, burning, and vein irritation, making it unsustainable as a long-term strategy.

2. Diminishing Returns

• More is not always better. Just because something helps at a certain dose doesn’t mean megadosing daily will make you live forever. At some point, you hit a ceiling where the benefits plateau.

Are NAD+ Supplements a Better Option?


For most people, oral or sublingual NAD precursors (like NMN or NR) are a much more practical way to boost NAD+ without the issues of IVs. These are:

• Less invasive

• More cost-effective

• Easier to take consistently


While research is still evolving, NMN and NR show promise in increasing NAD+ levels without the need for IVs.


The Bigger Picture: NAD+ Alone Won’t Make You Live Longer


If you’re not already dialed in with the basics of longevity, then NAD+ supplementation shouldn’t be your first priority. The real needle-movers for longevity and aging well include:


✅ A Correct Exercise Program (Strength training + cardio + mobility work)

✅ Reducing Stress (Chronic stress ages you faster than a lack of NAD+)

✅ Drinking Enough Water (Dehydration impacts cellular function)

✅ Getting Enough Sleep (Sleep naturally replenishes NAD+ levels!)

✅ Eating Nutrient-Dense Foods (Instead of relying on supplements to compensate)


Final Thoughts


I’m all for optimizing health and longevity, and NAD+ supplementation can have its place—but only if you’ve already mastered the fundamentals. Spending thousands on NAD+ IVs while neglecting sleep, diet, and exercise is like putting premium fuel into a car with a broken engine.


So, before you needle your veins for an extra 5% of youthfulness, ask yourself: Are you already doing the 90-100% that actually moves the needle? Because that’s where real longevity starts.
